1675AD Great Fire of Northampton Destroys
Three Quarters of the Town
Sparks from an open fire in St Mary's Street, near the castle, started the Great Fire of Northampton. In a matter of hours 75% of the town was destroyed - buildings gone, families homeless and people dead.

Many important buildings, including All Hallows Church, were destroyed in the fire. As the fire happened so soon after the Great Fire of London, King Charles II felt empathy for the town and contributed wood to help with the rebuild. Hazelrigg House is one of the few pre-fire houses remaining in the town centre.
