The film Kinky Boots was based on Trickers shoe factory on St Michael's Road in Northampton. It tells the story of how the Northampton shoe trade adapted to competition from abroad in the 20th century. In the same year Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story was filmed at Kirby Hall.

In 2008 Northamptonshire became the focus for film again, with the shooting of The Duchess, telling the tale of Georgiana Spencer.
